This is the sequel to Devil’s Bargain (Red Letter Days – Book 1)
In the first book I felt Caine had made a strong link to the older end of the YA market. This series has just the right amount of danger and spice without crossing the boundaries.
The focus in the first book was on Jazz and Borden, in this one we get a taste of Ben and Luzia. The team has begun to understand that they have been drawn into a game that they can neither win nor lose and whether they like it or not those red letters keep on coming.
I think Caine dropped the ball in the last few chapters, especially the last one.
It was rushed and read like a scene from a soap opera. The author is going to have to be careful to keep that paranormal and sci-fi element rolling withing falling back into the excitable clutches of teenage angst ridden plots.
One thing I really want to grumble about is Luzia’s reaction to Ben when she finds out the truth. I mean really which self respecting adult female finds out something like that and then acts as if it is as normal as making a ham sandwich.No anger at all, just an overall blind acceptance. That really got my goat.
It seems as if Caine has quite a future planned for the unlikely warriors of time versus choice mixed with ill intent. Not sure how that is going to work logistically with certain elements that are yet to arrive, bu t I have every faith that Caine will deliver yet another enjoyable read.
